Message Rules -- Posted by Joanne on 10-22-03 16:42

I've never chosen to use Message Rules on newsgroups before, but decided it
was time. It works very nicely.

So, how are your birds?

I had such a good laugh yesterday when visiting a new client. They do
"clean-room" laundry. The tolerances are incredible and all I could think
of was my Cockatoos and CAGS.

Not sure who you were asking but, my birds are all fine.I still have a
couple of patagonians, and a couple of greencheeked conured available. Tha
latter are so sweet. They can already talk and say "hello little parrot".
Otherwise, I am hoping my timnehs breed this year and perhaps the
alexandrians too.
House birds are fine, noisy and happy, oh, and I have an owl :0)

I was asking all of you. I missed you all through the re-enactment of the
Crusades and Holocaust.

Where did you get an owl and how are you caring for it? Is it injured,
juvenile, pet?

Adult, pet. Kept for several years in a small 6' x 3' enclosure and apart

from food/water/cleaning, ignored.
Originally flown but not for the last 6 or so years. Old chap, reducing his
birds to a manageable number.
It now has a 12' x 6' aviary with room to extend as her muscle tone
improves.Added to which is a 6' x 4' shed, all snug and dry, with perching
plus a roosting box inside.
Being fed daily on dead day old chicks, between 2 and 3 a day. I make her
fly to glove in the flight for her morning chick, and the rest she gets at
dusk. Just really wanting her to learn to trust me, and to start to use
those wings.
In the long term, hope to fly her. (For her benefit, not mine)
She was named 'Olly', but in honour of someone else, I call her 'Owly' :0)

On the cost of reproduction in long-lived birds: the influence of environmental variability

INTRODUCTION A central issue in life history theory is how animals balance their investment in young against their own chances to survive and reproduce in the future (e.g., Roff 1992, Stearns 1992). This life history trade-off is referred to as the cost of reproduction and was originally proposed b... (Read More)
